Plant Safety is a Savings You Can’t Put a Number On

We’re always focused on saving you money, whether that be through increased uptime, decreased downtime, sourcing less costly products, or various other ways that are focused on that bottom line: monetary cost. But in some cases, the full “savings” on a project can’t truly be broken down into numbers, not when plant safety is a concern. Sure, there are possible costs associated with an incident on your plant floor: shutdown, replacement parts, health costs. But those are certainly costs you can’t truly predict – and you can’t put a price on the safety and well-being of the men and women who make up your company.

Success Story: Plant Safety Can Save More than Money

Industry – Food & Beverage
Region – Northwestern PA
Cost Savings – $3,200 + ?

Problem
The initial problem that began this conversation: drives were failing because they were mounted on pump carts that would bounce around due to uneven floors. While talking about this, a secondary problem was introduced: they were using pin & sleeve connectors which were very risky; in fact, they had an incident of arcing when they disconnected.

Solution
ErieTec proposed that the new drives be mounted on pillars rather than on carts, eliminating the shock from uneven floors the pump carts were rolled on. The secondary solution was removing the pin and sleeve connectors and replacing those with Meltric plugs instead.

Savings Calculation
The solution to the initial problem – the failing drives – saved the customer about $3,200 per year, as they were having to replace the drives at least twice annually. The solution to the secondary safety issue can’t possibly be calculated – because you can’t put a price on safety.
